Volunteering at Organic Blooms is fun and a great way to perfect your horticultural skills. No two days are ever the same, as no matter what the season there is always a variety of jobs to be done in the cutting garden and poly-tunnels.
There are often four or five volunteers who work as part of a team alongside the trainees and staff. Work starts early in the spring with seed sowing, potting on, planting out, with later propagation by means of cuttings and division, planting bulbs for seasonal colour, pruning, and the inevitable weeding in the cutting garden and stock beds.
Then there are flowers to pick to make into hand-tied bouquets, hanging baskets and pots to plant up. The year comes to a close with Christmas when all hands turn to making table and willow decorations, wreaths and pots for presents.
Volunteers have come to Organic Blooms from a variety of backgrounds. Some have completed an R.H.S. Certificate course and want to gain more practical hands-on experience, some have more of an interest in floristry and others with little previous experience have attended a short course in horticultural skills and then have simply stayed on as a volunteer in the gardens.
No matter what your previous experience, if you’re interested why not call in and see us or phone Jo on 07766 023921.
